All workplaces have dress codes, and all dress codes have a purpose. Workers may be required to wear certain clothes to identify them as representatives of their employer, as when meter-readers wear the insignia of their utility company so that homeowners don't mistake them for trespassers. They may be required to wear clothes that protect the products that they work with, as when clean-room workers wear shoe covers, or cooks wear hairnets.
