Under the California Labor Code and the California Occupational Safety and Health Act, all employers in California, regardless of size, must establish a hazard communication program that emphasizes workplace safety. The standard requires employers to communicate to their employees the hazardous substances to which they are exposed at work through the use of labels, warnings, material safety data sheets (MSDSs), and other pertinent information and employee training.

The hazcom standard is a citation magnet for employers who do not follow the requirements established by Cal/OSHA—it's nearly always in the Top 10 list of most frequently cited violations.

Don't let yourself become one of this number. Attend our 90-minute audio conference on July 18, when our California safety expert will explain how to avoid the common mistakes that can lead to costly citations and lawsuits. You'll also learn how to reduce your employees' exposures to hazardous substances.

  • How your effective hazcom program promotes safe practices and reduces workers' compensation claims
  • The required elements of a hazcom program
  • The most frequently cited section of the hazcom standard, and how to avoid getting nailed
  • Why you must understand—and follow—the "household quantities" rule
  • How to help your employees understand MSDSs
  • Steps for conducting a successful hazard determination
  • Tips for ensuring that your hazcom program is not only compliant, but effective
