Environmental Compliance: How To Comply with the State, Federal, and Local Rules That Apply To Your Organization

California employers need to worry about environmental compliance regulations at all levels: local, state, and federal. If you get it wrong, the cost of fines and abatement measures can be staggering.

In 2009 alone, for example, EPA Region 9 assessed $5 billion in settlement proceeds, up from $1.7 billion in 2008 for federal environmental offenses in California. And this doesn't include the fines levied through state and local agencies, which often tack on additional six- or seven-figure penalties.

Join us on November 19 for an in-depth webinar to help you get your company into environmental compliance -- and be sure to bring along your management team. You'll learn:

  • The regulatory landmines California businesses face when complying with these laws
  • How even well-known businesses have recently gotten caught off-guard in California -- and what you can learn from their mistakes
  • Basic compliance requirements of key environmental rules
  • An overview of differences between the local, state, and federal requirements
  • How to design proactive responses, including audits, to satisfy regulators while ensuring confidentiality
  • What to do if you get cited for an environmental violation, and how to protect yourself from future citations
  • Where to find environmental laws, regulations, agencies and enforcement procedures that affect your business
  • The environmental regulatory changes and enforcement trends to expect in 2011 and beyond

About Your Speaker:

James Dufour, Esq., is a founder and principal of Sacramento-based Dufour Safety, Environmental & Regulatory Law, which provides regulatory compliance services and environmental and OSHA advice and counsel and representation in enforcement actions, and www.dufourseminars.com, the hub for educating, training and updating environmental managers, company officials and others responsible for California environmental compliance.

Over the span of his 30-year career, he has served as a litigation consultant and expert in selected environmental and other cases devising cost-effective and practical regulatory compliance programs for private clients and trade groups in many different industries.

Within his law practice, Dufour represents clients in environmental and Proposition 65 cases. These cases are usually the result of a federal (U.S. EPA) or State of California environmental agency inspection which results in the issuance of a Notice of Violation and substantial proposed penalties. These cases cover topics such as clean air, hazardous waste, and water pollution. His practice also covers cases coming out of Proposition 65, the California law which requires warnings for chemicals known to cause cancer or reproductive harm
