A.B. 1136, the Hospital Patient and Health Care Worker Injury Protection Act, was signed into law this past October.
This sweeping legislation dramatically affects how healthcare organizations in California must manage all aspects of patient handling. If you haven't yet reviewed and revised your patient handling program, now's the time.
Join us on February 8 for an in-depth webinar all about the new policy, procedure, training, recordkeeping, and equipment management requirements identified in A.B. Our presenters are seasoned healthcare professionals who will provide you with a focused strategy for cost-effective modifications using safe-handling best practices.
You and your colleagues will learn:
- Exactly what A.B. 1136 requires of you, including key compliance dates and specific requirements
- What needs to be included in your organization's "Safe Patient Handling Policy"
- How best to meet the safe patient handling equipment requirements, including adequate equipment quantity and availability expectations
- Strategies for developing and documenting job descriptions for your healthcare workers
- Safe-handling best practices to consider in your plan
- Smart approaches for meeting the training requirements for your healthcare workers
- Who needs to coordinate and manage the program, and the qualifications your coordinator must have
- How to prepare a "Patient Protection and Health Care Worker Back and Musculoskeletal Injury Prevention Plan"
- Strategies for addressing the concerns of healthcare workers who refuse to lift, reposition, or transfer a patient due to concerns about adequate training or availability of appropriate lifting equipment
About your Speakers:
Shannon Gallagher is the Clinical Marketing Manager for Atlas Lift Tech. His first peer-review article as the primary author, 'Rethinking Lift Teams,' was published in December 2010 in Bariatric Times. In researching this project, Gallagher became acquainted with the work of Eric Race and Atlas Lift Tech. This began Gallagher's consultative relationship with Atlas, working to prevent musculoskeletal injuries among caregivers. Since that time, he has spoken about safe patient handling at the Southern California Association for Healthcare Risk Managers and participated in a roundtable panel discussion published in Bariatric Nursing and Surgical Patient Care.
Eric Race is the founder and CEO of Atlas Lift Tech, a San Francisco-based company that contracts safe patient handling services to the medical industry. He is primarily responsible for overseeing general management and operations, in addition to working one-on-one with facilities to improve their safe patient handling programs. He recently spoke at the 2011 Safe Patient Handling and Movement Conference in Orlando Florida and participated in a roundtable panel discussion published in Bariatric Nursing and Surgical Patient Care. Race built his passion for Safe Patient Handling and Movement by working in various clinical settings, and has extensive hands-on experience through his previous work as a firefighter, search and rescue instructor, Paramedic and a hospital lift technician/coordinator.
This webinar qualifies for Continuance of Certification (COC) credit for CSPs, who will earn 0.05 COC points for attending this webinar.
How Do Webinars Work?
A webinar is remarkably cost-effective and convenient. You participate from your office, using a regular telephone and a computer with an Internet connection. You have no travel costs and no out-of-office time.
Plus, for one low price, you can get as many people in your office to participate as you can fit around a speakerphone and a computer screen.
Because the conference is live, you can ask the speakers questions - either on the phone or via the webinar interface.
You will receive access instructions via e-mail several days before the event. You don't need any additional materials before the webinar starts. Your conference materials will be available for you to view, print, and download when you log in to participate in the event.
