As employers in California, we are well aware of the California Code's requirement for an effective, written Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP). Following California's lead, Federal OSHA now seems poised to require an injury and illness prevention program nationwide. (They're going to call it I2P2.)
We don't know the exact timeline of implementation. But we do know that with the passage of the Fed-OSHA standard, we will most likely have to make changes. In discussion now, for example, is the requirement for an employer to form a safety committee, which is not included in §3203.
What to do to get ready? Join us on August 19 for a detailed 90-minute webinar. Our speaker is an experienced safety professional who has worked extensively with Cal/OSHA's IIPP requirements and has carefully documented the key differences with Fed-OSHA's proposed standard. Be sure to bring along your management team so they are prepared for any changes needed to bring your workplace into compliance.
Here's what you'll learn:
- What you are required to do to be in compliance with California's IIPP §3203
- What Fed-OSHA is proposing with an Injury and Illness Prevention Program (I2P2) and how it will change what you are currently doing with §3203
- How to verify and substantiate management's commitment to controlling workplace hazards and correcting dangerous conditions when they occur
- The main components of a written (I2P2) plan and how to assign responsibilities for onsite safety
- How to create a system that assures employee compliance with your IIPP plan and both the Fed and Cal regulations
- What needs to be included in your safety communications--including meetings, training, notifications and postings--and how to readily communicate to every worker what they need to do to operate safely in your workplace
