While California does not require you to establish a labor-management safety and health committee, the state certainly looks favorably upon employers that do! Specifically, Cal/OSHA states that employers with a safety committee are presumed to be in substantial compliance with the Cal/OSHA Act. Couple that with the fed's pending I2P2 requirement, and establishing a safety committee just makes good business sense!
But the real benefits of having an active, well-run safety committee go way beyond compliance. Not only do you have a peer-driven review of safety work habits and investigations, you also get employees fully invested in minimizing citations, fines and workers' comp costs. Bottom line: Safety committees improve safety and reduce costs.
Don't miss this opportunity to learn the keys to successfully organizing and managing a safety committee. Join us on September 30 for a webinar led by an industry veteran, and bring your managers and supervisors along. You'll learn:
- Why it is wise to implement a safety committee as part of your Illness and Injury Prevention Plan under Title 8 CCR Sec 3202
- What the new Fed/OSHA I2P2 Standard means to your California business
- How to determine whether your safety committee is working for you or against you
- How to set the tone for your safety committee by laying the proper foundation and establishing its role in your safety culture
- Who should be included when recruiting for the safety committee and why it is important to allow everyone to participate
- Why it may make sense to throw out the rule book to engage workers in your safety committee
- Safety committee meeting logistics and how to keep the group on task
- The key reasons some safety committees fail and how to avoid those landmines
